Oprah Winfrey is set to end her popular daytime talk show that has ruled the daytime airwaves for the past 25 years. However, with the end of her syndicated talk show comes the beginning of her new cable television network, The Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN). As part of the launch of the new cable channel, there is a contest for aspiring talk show hosts to win their “OWN” talk show. In the coming months the public will be able to vote for the people that they believe will be the best talk show host.
Since Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. is a sisterhood of the first and finest, it was inevitable that Alpha Kappa Alpha sorors would vie to get their “OWN” talk show on the Oprah Winfrey Network. Several Alpha Kappa Alpha women are competing to win the contest and need your vote as only the top five online submissions will move forward to the finals.

Delta Beta Alumna Barbara Rudd(Winter ’69) is auditioning to be a talk show host on Oprah Winfrey’s new network (OWN). Soror Barbara was a high-powered advertising executive with Johnson Publishing Company (Ebony/Jet) for many years. After she was downsized a few years back, she started a blog, Entrepreneur By Necessity. Her talk show has the same theme … reinvention.
